Graduated external garment worn daily and only removed when going to bed at night
Wash daily with soapy water and dry naturally.
It should be comfortable and snug fit around the limb
Must be chosen to include all parts of the swollen limb i.e. swollen hand/fingers will need a mitten
Should be applied carefully distributing pressure evenly. Hosiery lasts 4-6 months if two are supplied and worn alternatively
Compression garments will not work if they do not fit properly or if the elasticity is absent.
Garment should have strongest support at the hand or foot so that fluid is pushed upwards towards the centre of the body.
Compression garments can cause damage if worn by people with poor circulation or poor sensation. Consult your Doctor if you have such problems.
The garment should be removed while taking a bath or shower. If the water is not too hot to re-apply your garment.
Rubber gloves will help you to grip the garment as your apply it.
To achieve the correct size of garment it is important to be properly assessed and measured by the lymphoedema therapist.
